‘Tis the Season!  For what?  The holidays?  Time with family?  Giving?  Getting?  Winter?  Snow?  Stress?  Colds and the Flu?  Crowded malls?  Hmmm…  December brings on different obligations and emotions for each person.  How many of us end each Holiday season with, ‘Next year, I’ll be more organized and prepared.’  It could be your infant’s first holiday; or your preschooler’s anxiety of a bearded, heavy-set man; or your school-age child who is about to spill the beans about Santa to younger siblings which is your stressor.  Top that off with your husband’s office party, the in-laws at your house for a week or a bout of the flu the week before Christmas.  For me, it’s having both kids’ birthdays sandwiched in between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

        Luckily, as MOMS, we have some great resources to tap into.  No time without the kids to shop?  Try trading babysitting with other MOMS.  Playgroups are a great time to try out a holiday craft – make a gift for the grandparents and you’ve utilized play time to get something done!  Wanting to impress upon your child(ren) the importance of charity and giving?  Check out the two service projects our Club is involved with this month - create a “letter from home” or join us for pancakes.  Seek out advice and ideas from other MOMS.  My answer to “Is Santa real?” – Santa or Saint Nick lived a long time ago.  His spirit of giving lives in those who believe.  There is something magical about Christmas, and believing in the birth of Christ or the spirit of Santa can be truly magical.

        Most importantly, take time to refresh yourself.  Look at your calendar and PLAN IN time for you – don’t just think about it, write it onto your date book.  MNO is one way to take a break and appreciate the “holly, jolly” of the holidays.  Maybe you could use a baby-sitting swap to get that free 30-minute massage.  Check out www.flylady.net for ideas on simplifying your holidays.  Check out the Fly Lady Holiday Control Journal at www.flylady.net/images/HCJ2003.pdf or email me to have it sent directly to you.
